Sometime in the first year of our ownership of the mansion, Betty Stevens contacted us. Betty is one of the few remaining grandchildren of Albert and Mary Gufler currently living in Manhattan, Kansas. She provided us with a Gufler family group photo positioned on the front steps of the mansion shot sometime in the early 40"s . As we continue to live in and share the mansion with our community, the most common comments we receive are regarding the comfort people feel being inside this 100+ mansion. When we look at this family gathering on the front steps it is seems possible that so many wonderful memories were experienced through the years that the positive feelings in history linger on for those of us who have come much later. My Grandmother Virginia Jensen O’Reilly is to the left of AH Gufler and his wife Mary (Hoffmans) Gufler; her grandparents. My grandmother’s mother is Wilhelmina (Billie) Gufler Jensen, the second woman to the right of AH. My daughter is named Wilhelmina, for her great-great Grandmother Billie, born 123 years after her. I believe my dad, John Hale White, is the baby that AH Gufler is holding.
